The Mad Poet of Fyvie

I thought I was an onion
But then I sat and thought
That this was rather silly
And so I was distraught.

I thought I saw a butterfly
A’perched atop the moon
It rather was a firefly
In the setting sun of June

I thought I saw a faerie-fey
Upon the poppies fair
I looked again and sawr it was
A castle in the air

I thought I saw an ogre,
That offered beer so brown
Alas, to my dismay it was
But one and half a crown

I thought I was a silver star
Upon the milky-way
Such sorrow when I knew it was
A comet gone astray

I thought I saw my own true love
Upon the lakes of Bunyan
Alas at this I wept in shame
For it was but an onion

Very pretty, it reminds me a little of Beatrix Potter's riddles for children. It is sweet and sour all at the same time!

He he - I liked this - what would one call it - a ditty? Anywho - very well done except I couldn't get the image from stanza three - I could be dense - but I liked how it went from silly, to slightly serious and back to silly and a little sad.
