Images of the future (for Janet)

I walk away my feelings
Every evening by the sea,
And all the things I yearn for
Come so gently back to me,
But when all of my illusions
Tell me life is just a game,
I keep turning back the pages
To that first remembered flame.

In that fiery furnace sunset
Where I felt you by my side,
And those golden tinted droplets
Slowly floated on the tide,
There was a feeling of forever
Waiting there so silently,
Like a locked and shuttered doorway
That was waiting for the key.

Then the kiss that overwhelmed me
Opened wide the shuttered door,
And I felt the waves of passion
Light the waters of the shore,
As we both just kept on walking
Through the magic of your smile,
In that corner of forever
That we strolled in for a while.

But a flame can be forgotten
In the maelstroms of life,
It can hold your heart forever
Or can cut you like a knife,
And time marched on relentless
As the flame so softly died,
Though it settled in the shadows
Still it never could quite hide.

Now I walk the shores each evening
And I see you painted there,
In those golden clouds of sunset
Or that gentle twilight air,
And I know you’ll never leave me
As a dream will often do,
For the music of remembrance
Is a symphony of you…

A lovely poem.

I stumbled over the fourth stanza, second line. The rhythm isn’t right, at least to me it isn’t, and mares an otherwise excellently written piece.

It's an easy fix though, I'm sure. 'In the maelstrom of a life' perhaps? Like I said, lovely poem
