Huckleberry Dance

She danced with that guy
That guy who could barely move his hips
She danced and I, I…
I had to kiss those lips.

(I grabbed my bartender)

“Joe, what’s her name?” I demand, not ask.

“Candy, but don’t bother; she’s taken.” Joe cleans a glass.

(He spun her too far and this is what happened)

I grabbed her right
Tender but tight
Her breasts against my chest
Then I grabbed her left

(We danced)

“You know that’s my boyfriend?” She nodded over her shoulder.

“A friend that’s a boy, so am I… a friend.” I dipped her.

(She put the moves on)

She snapped back up
Whipped her hips and thrust
Her backside into my hips
Pushed off and went back to that prick

(I waited)

“I’m gonna get a drink.” I read his lips.

“Fine.” She is alone; my only chance.

(I caught her gaze)

I moved deftly in the crowd
Me desire, my need too loud
I don’t ask… I grab her hand
Arm over shoulder… I command

(She is close to me)

“You just don’t quit do you?” She seems amused.

“Not when I know I need to be with you.” Staring dead in her eyes

(She tries to speak)

Pushed out to the left
Swivel hips two steps
Wrap the left to the right
Right to the left, knotted tonight

(I try to speak into her ear)

She unravels… she kicks,
And slips into the splits.
She rises flexing those thighs
Then challenges me with her eyes

(I’m speechless)

“So what? All you think I know is two step?” I smile.

“I think you better make this worth my while.” She smiles.

(I’m speechless)

I drop step, double pump the knee
Catch the ankle into a six step and sweep
The legs to a switch, pop, dip, dive
Slide to her side, grab her hands catch her eyes

(Body language)

Hand on a thigh pivot and grasp
Hr lips next to mine my hands on her…
As soon as we’re close she pushes apart
I pull her back I can see she knew from the start

(…)

Back and then forth, fighting a battle
Boyfriend’s friends tell tales and tattle
I spin her, she laughs, he steps in the scene
She looks curious, the boyfriend looks mean

(awkward silence)

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing!” He screams.

“I thought I was dancing, if you want next just ask.” I try to stay cool.

(He sets down his drink)

A step to the left his right missed my face
Grabbed his wrist ducked under and placed
His right on his back, twist up and force down
It’s hard to talk shit with your face on the ground.

(Bouncers came running)

“So long of the short, I got thrown out.” I light a cigarette.

“Lost the battle- but you can still win the war.” The old bum spoke, hobbled off, and said no more.

(A door opened behind me)

She sat right beside me; a smile
I exhale; I know I made it worth while.
We both stand; place hand in hand
Two souls unknown woman and man…

(She stops me, eyes me up and down)

“This better not be bullshit.” She waits; I’m silent. “How bout it cowboy?”

“I’m your Huckleberry…”
