End

Sitting in the cold
Waiting in the dark
Hovering by the phone
All I need is an excuse
To call you

Afraid of what you’ll say
Frightened of what I’ll do
Constantly running away
All I need
Is you

You’re here, unbelievably
I’m shivering with apprehension
I don’t hear what you’re saying
All you need
Is time

I'm thinking

A very tightly drawn snapshot of experience that I'm sure many of us have had. I think the real impact is in the first stanza. Like when yur really hacked off waiting for that call and wonder if you should take the initiative, but wary about what that may say about your own sense of desperation, and this is revisited in the last stanza. This is like a whole short story condensed into a few well chosen words.

I like the repetition in of "need" at the end of each stanza. I felt like the line, "I'm thinking," didn't fit so well. It kinda confused me.

I might be interesting to change up the last line of the first stanza:

All I need to call you
is an excuse.

It would allow for more than one interpretation of the line, but it could still be interpreted the original way.

Thanks for you comment!
