Single and Looking
The soft, white coat
Of the beautiful, timid woman,
Slowly grazed the ground
On that rainy Sunday morning.
Returning from a wild night,
She walked along the wet road.
Smiling as she recalled that handsome man.
The one she never thought would show.
Remembering exactly how it all felt,
When they danced and when they laughed.
How his hands rested tightly on her hips,
Remembering the time she thought she had found her better half.
Along the damp sidewalk,
All she could do was smile with glistening eyes.
As they many mirages passed her by,
The things she thought she saw were all a bundle of lies.
A simple thought or image would drive her crazy.
Looking at a flower or a small, untouched leaf,
Made her think of him vividly,
And how glad they both were to meet.
Knowing nothing would change,
She stepped into her apartment home.
Checking on her small children,
She sent the babysitter home, leaving herself all alone.
Taking out a book,
She began to read aloud.
Finding her story of the wild night before her,
Made her realize that she was only a coward.
For her plans had fallen through,
And she had ended up at the local diner.
She needed the money to raise her children,
For her husband had left with no intent to find her.
She struggles every day,
To bring food home every night.
Because of the love she has for her children,
She knows she will win this fight.
The love builds up every day.
Every night when she tucks them in...
She reads to them their favorite books.
For her kids will help her carry on and they will help her win.
They'll end up in parks on Saturday afternoons,
Flying their hand-made kites.
So that maybe, just maybe one day
She'll get to have her one wild night.
She dreams and dreams of meeting,
The right man who will love her for who she is.
The man who will take care of her children.
The man who will truly love her kids.
