choosing one

woke up this morning
feeling outta breath
thinking of art to save the rest
came to this evening
able to stand up straight
gave a sermon on the flaws of the human race

can you believe
darling
there are those who still believe i am one
of the human race?
that i'm dissheveled uncoothed & and still should have to
bathe?
oh
for those who still think i am a toy
malleable & fun
simple & naive
like any given country boy

if i play its of a cat with a mouse
tossing it around
like a ball around the house
if i sit in a big box
its cause i'm up in outer space
back where i belong where the stars sing their song
&
if i song along its because i knew it all along

so catch a glance of our romance
for me to hold you would give you such a chance
of a stance to be swept in arms of knowing
that has seen the woman's glance
of infatuation &
naive happenstance
but baby
what i'm looking for is more than just a chance
