attempt at a villanelle- spot the references! (no title yet)

There was a time, there came a time
When she prepared a mask for those she’d meet-
Cold, cold faces chasing the sublime.

Her tears set in to make her smiles blind.
Her fancy strayed, running riots on the street-
There was a time, there came a time.

Though, like moldering wedding cake, lying in her prime,
She stayed tied to the bedpost held by leaden sheets.
Cold, cold faces chasing the sublime

Glance at her, force her to repeat her crime.
A rose is a rose is a rose, and it is free, free, free!
There was a time, there came a time…

Listening to the plates clink and chime
She tried to stay- yet motionless she flee’d
Cold, cold faces chasing the sublime

Deadbeat stares bore into her mind
Murdering, creating, foaming at the teeth!
There was a time, there came a time,
Cold, cold faces chasing the sublime.
