Single Mother
Single Mother
There are boys that sleep around, and act like a man.
But, when she says, “I’m pregnant!”, they never take a stand.
There are men that stick around, and put a ring on her hand.
But, they are few and far between, across this land.
Most are just boys, that pack their shit and hit the road.
Leaving the girl they said they loved, to carry all the load.
There are some single mothers, that go to desperate measure.
They fuck, do drugs, anything for pleasure.
But, there are many women, that don’t do those sort of things.
And, its for these special, Mommas, this praise that I sing.
These mothers could have left, like most dead-beat fathers do.
But, they stay to be the mother and the father too.
These women, they are saddened, and left feeling blue.
But, they do it cause they loves us, and cause us children love them too.
They keep us fed, they keep us warm, they do anything they can.
They do it by themselves, without the help from their “so-called” man.
My mother lead me, taught me, and watched me grow.
She has all my baby pictures, the family album she loves to show.
There are the pictures of my mother, my sister, and my brother.
And, the pictures of my Father, you know, my Mother’s ex-lover.
The kids grow up, look back, and get kinda sad.
But, me, I never shed a tear............
Cause, my Momma was my Dad.
