It All Ends Tonight

You stand there crying in your hands,
Crying out to God that you don’t understand.
Why oh why did you let him go?
All because you didn’t know.

You didn’t know
That you’d never see his smile.
You didn’t know
That you’d only have a while.
Never again will you hear,
Hear his laugh in your ear
And it all ends,
And it all ends tonight.

You’ve read all the letters that he wrote.
Refusing to let your memories go up in smoke.
You sing a happy song, tell everyone it’s alright.
And you go home and cry yourself to sleep at night.

You didn’t know
That you’ll never hold his hand.
You didn’t know
That he left a boy, but died a man.
Never again will you see,
See how kind he can be
And it all ends,
And it all ends tonight.

You walk into his abandoned bedroom,
And you feel it’s more like a tomb.
You weep when you pick up his letterman’s
And you have no clue how you’re going to tell his friends.

Your heart jumps when you feel a hand on your shoulder.
And you see your little boy, only grown and older.
And he says, “Don’t worry Mama, it’ll be alright
Your suffering, it all ends tonight.”

You hooked me. I felt for the narrator, but the end sounds as if he is a ghost telling her that she is going to die that night.
