Here Come the Grooms (Like 5th out of 10th rewrite)

Chapter One

He sat at his desk, thumping his pen on his pad. He wasn't sure as to what, nor how to come up with the conclusion for this piece. He had been working at Entertainment Weekly for almost four years now. He had busted his ass, and according to Ellen the current Editor, her posistion would be available around the first of the year. Yeah, he loved working with her, for her, but he was also ready for a change of some sort. He enjoyed talking to the celebrity's and going to the parties, but he needed to settle down, his kids needed him. They needed him to be a grown up now, and he was ready to.

"Hey, working late?" came a familiar voice. He turned and found Jeremy the other candidate for editor standing in his door. "Gosh, you make me look bad." he joked.

"Yeah, I am trying to finish up this Lindsey Lohan piece." Jaysin replied.

"I remember when that girl was in the Parent Trap, she has grown up big time." Jeremy stated. "Either way, Ellen asked me to do the ten year on Queer As Folk, and seeing as we are the only two homos here, I figured you might want to do it with me."

"Uh, yeah sure. That would be awesome, maybe Ellen will make us Co-editors." Jaysin joked. Jeremy shrugged.

"You never know. I will get back to you tomorrow with the details. Go home! Have a life!" Jeremy exclaimed and in one swift movement he was gone.

Jaysin spun back to his computer and began to pound away at the keys, Jeremy had just given him the inspiration he needed.

The drink sat in front of him, slowly melting in the glass. It was his favorite drink, a peach daquiri. And this bar was his regular bar too, they knew his name and he even had a tab here. He was not an alcoholic, he just liked a drink every now and then. He was single, he had not had a boyfriend since his ex-fiancee dumped him and left him, and that was six years ago. They had been together for almost three years and Adam decided he had missed out on alot in life. Jaysin had brought him to Boston to get married, little did he know it would open his eyes to a world he had not seen. He let him go, and tried to move on. Six years later, all he had were two children and a great job. He traveled every morning to work in New York City, at night took the train back to his apartment and slept. Sometimes he would stop by at this bar on the way home and have a drink.

"You look like a man with a lot on his mind." the bartender said bringing him back to the real world. He smiled at the guy, kind of cute.

"That is the understatement of the year." Jaysin replied. He downed his drink and nodded at the guy then headed out the door. The crisp October breeze slipped through his jacket and caused him to shiver. He quickly buttoned up the front of the jacket and tightened his scarf around his neck. He had no idea where Adam was now, they had promised to keep in touch and stay friends, but that never happened. Jaysin would not have been able to stay friends with him, he loved him too much and knew it would hurt too much.

"Exscuse me," Jaysin said as a guy bumped into him once again snapping him out of it. The guy dropped something, Jaysin turned quickly to help pick it up, and sounded like it had broken. He felt like a clutz, and refused to make eye contact with the guy.

"Jaysin?" came a too familiar voice. Jaysin was suddenly thrown back into memories of nights alone, whispering to one another in the dark. Wake up kisses, and the smell, oh god his smell.

He brought his eyes up to meet the guy, his green eyes sparkled in the dim sun light. Jaysin wanted to scream, he wanted to run away and not looke back. He didn't want to see him ever again. He didn't want to hurt again.

"Adam," he heard himself say. The man smiled and they stared at one another for a moment. "I am sorry, I broke whatever it is that is in this box, I will give you cash as repayment," he heard himself say. "I am such a klutz sometimes it is sad, I mean all my business in the streets and handling stuff in New York and you would figure I would be good on my feet but no." he rambled.

"No don't worry about it. It was my birthday present from a friend." he explained. They stood still staring at each other. "God, how long has it been?"

"Six years." Jaysin replied still trying to avoid eye contact.

"How are you?" Adam inquired.

"I am here," Jaysin stated close to crying. He wasn't gonna cry, he couldn't cry!

"Look, maybe we can hang out sometime." he said pulling out his cell phone. "What is your number?"

"555-4586." Jaysin stated. He wasn't sure what to do. Hit him, cry, hug him, how does a person handle this?

"I'll call you, we will go out." Adam said.

"I'll have to find a sitter." Jaysin explained without thinking.

"You have a kid?" Adam asked slightly in awe.

"Plural, I have a boy and a girl." he replied.

"Oh, and yer married?" Adam continued motioning to his finger. In reality it was the ring they had worn when they were engaged, Adam apparently didn't recognize it.

"Yeah." Jaysin lied suddenly. What the hell was he saying?

"Will your husband mind you hanging out with an ex?" Adam probed.

"I'll have to ask. Just call me." Jaysin stated, and turned quickly leaving him standing on the corner.

Chapter 2

Adam sat the picture back in the box, it was his favorite of him and Jaysin. They were both sitting on the couch with their cats, the closest thing to kids they had, and they were happy. Why had he given that up? The same reason any young gay guy would give it up, the need the experience. Jaysin had predicted it, he knew it was going to happen. But he had stayed with him, because he loved him. That look he had given him, he knew that look. He was still hurting, and that hurt Adam. He had never wanted to hurt him, never wanted him to look at him like that. He missed him, he had been his best friend for so many years and then he was alone, in Boston. And even though it was obvious they had lived in the same city for the past six years, they had not talked nor ran into each other. What were the odds?

"What the hell are you doing?" came a friendly voice from outside his closet.

"Just looking at something." he replied pushing the box back into it's hiding place. He stood and walked out of the closet, Trey, his boyfriend, embraced him. He returned the action, but Jaysin was still on his mind. They had been together for almost a year now, and after seeing Jaysin he knew what his problem had been. Why he had gone through so many guys since the break up. He had compared them all to Jaysin, none of them measured up. Then again, he would never say this out loud.

"What's wrong?" Trey asked as he pulled away. Adam just shook his head and walked into the living room. Adam didn't know how to tell him anything, they had a huge communication issue. "What?" Trey inquired again getting a little more frusterated.

"Well," Adam said sitting down on their couch. "I ran into Jaysin today." Adam confessed.

"Oh," Trey said sitting across from him on the love seat. "Him," was all Trey added. Trey knew about Jaysin, Trey knew all about their history. "Wow, that's weird. You haven't seen each other in like forever. Is he okay?" Trey asked trying to sound concerned.

"Yeah, he has two kids and is married." Adam replied.

"That is awesome. At least someone is married." Trey relaxed. And yet once again bringing up the fact that they were not engaged like he wanted. "Are you okay? With seeing him I mean?"

"Yeah," Adam lied. "I got his number we're gonna hang out." Adam explained. Trey looked at him, a look of slight anger on his face, but he covered it up quickly.

"Oh, okay." he murmured.

"It's not like that." Adam quickly said. "I miss him, as a friend baby. We were so close, we were best friends." he explained.

"Whatever I gotta go to work." Trey replied rising and heading for the bedroom. The door slammed behind him. Adam had fucked up and he knew it. Trey would just have to get over it, he wanted his best friend back. He picked up his phone and dialed Jaysin's number.

"Hello?" came a groggy voice.

"I'm sorry I woke you up, I'll call back later." Adam said quickly.

"No, it's cool. I gotta take the kids to their dance class in a couple hours." Jaysin replied. "What's going on?"

"Not much, just arguing with my boyfriend." Adam stated, annoyed at the fact. "Why aren't you teaching your kids how to dance?"

"Well, Orchid is in Ballet and Kyan is in Tap, they wanted to learn something other than hip-hop." Jaysin replied laughing.

"Are you off today?" Adam asked.

"Yeah, got the kids dance classes and then taking them to the park. It's their day with daddy." Jaysin said laughing. There was a pause between them, and Adam got slightly uncomfortable.

"Okay, I was just making sure you gave me the right number," Adam began.

"Do you want to come?" Jaysin blurted. Adam paused and thought about it for a minute.

"Yeah, sure. Where do you live?" Adam replied.

"Just meet me at the center, that is where they are taking their classes." Jaysin replied.

"How long have they been taking classes there? Trey works at the center." Adam stated.

"Trey? Trey Ericson? He is their teacher." Jaysin exclaimed. What the hell were the odds? Trey, his boyfriend taught his ex-boyfriends kids at the Gay and Lesbian Center.

"I'll ride over with Trey." Adam said. "See you then." And they both hung up the phone. He stopped and thought for a moment. "TREY! Come here for a second." he called standing in front of the couch. Trey walked out of the bedroom with shaving cream still on his face.

"What?" he asked, looking slightly panicked.

"Orchid and Kyan, in your class do you know their dad?" Adam asked.

"Orchid and Kyan Pierce? Yeah. Their dad Mr.Pierce, why?" Trey asked inquisitively.

"That is Jaysin." Adam confessed.

"Are you fucking serious?!" Trey exclaimed. "He is a totally sweet guy. I didn't know he was married though, his husband never comes and picks the kids up or anything, it is always him." Trey explained wiping his face off.

"He said today is his kids day, he takes them to class and to the park." Adam explained. "Do you mind if he and I hang out while they are in class?" Adam asked. Trey stopped and thought for a moment.

"No, it's cool. I know him well enough to be okay with that." Trey stated. Well this was a start.

Chapter 3

This was the third time Jaysin was dressing Kyan, he had seemed to strip off his clothes everytime. His son looked up at him and smiled, he was a sucker for Kyan's smile.

"Daddy, don't be mean." Orchid warned. They had learned that saying from their Aunt Danielle and Uncle Jordan.

"I am trying not to be honey, remind your brother that he has to wear clothes to tap." he explained look Kyan directly in the eyes, and recieving the smile as a response.

"When are you gonna come to Virginia and see me and mama!" Dominique exclaimed over the speaker.

"When I have time, I have told mom this several times." Jaysin replied tying Kyans other shoe.

"You keep saying that and I want to see my neice and nephew. And Mercedes and Cameran want to see their cousins." Dominque ordered. There was a pause on the other end of the line and Jaysin decided that this would be the best time to bring up Adam.

"I ran into Adam." Jaysin stated. Dominique was still silent on the other end, he heard her sigh as she though about what he had said.

"And?" she inquired.

"And we are hanging out while Orchid and Kyan are at lessons. His boyfriend is the teacher." Jaysin finished. He patted Kyan on his rear end and sent him on his way. "And keep your clothes on." he demanded. Kyan just nodded quickly as he ran around the corner.

"Is that smart? I mean I know how you still feel," she paused. "Strongly for him."

"Orchid go get your shoes on we gotta get ready to go." he told her. She skipped around the corner and headed to her own bedroom. "I told him I was married." Jaysin confessed.

"What the fuck!?" Dominique exclaimed into laughter. "Are you serious? Why?"

"Well, he noticed I still have a ring on. He didn't recognize it and he assumed I was married and I didn't want him to think I was desperate or anything." he splurged.

"Well what is he gonna say when he finds out you're not married?" she pushed.

"I don't care, I will cross that bridge when it comes." he replied. "I gotta get them out of here. We're gonna be late. I will call ya when I get back."

"Ok, love you." Dominique said giving in.

"You too. Give mama a hug and kiss for me. Ciao." Jaysin said clicking the off button.

******************************************************************

He kissed Trey gently on the lips as they stood on the steps to the center. Jaysin seemed to be running late, but he remembered how Jaysin always seemed to be twenty minutes behind the rest of the world. He smiled to himself remembering that.

"What's funny?" Trey asked.

"Nothing, just, never-mind." Adam stated flustered. He didn't want to make Trey anymore pissed than he already was. Trey said he was okay with all of this, but he knew otherwise. But then again Trey knew that Adam didn't care what he thought, he was going to do what he wanted to do. But, when he had seen Jaysin, something sparked, something he had been looking for for so long.

"Sorry we're late. Kyan wouldn't keep his clothes on." came Jaysin's voice, bringing Adam back to reality. Adam looked up and smiled, Jaysin was trotting down the street with two small kids. He had his dream, he was married with a family in Boston. And his children were so adorable.

"I assume this is Kyan and Orchid." Adam said kneeling down face to face with the kids.

"I am Orchid Avalon Pierce and this is my brother, Kyan Martin Pierce." the little red head stated, she leaned into him, "He's only three." she whispered. Adam laughed.

"It's okay, three year olds are cool." Adam said looking over to Kyan. He had Jaysin's eyes, and his smile.

"Alright kids, get in there. You already made Mr.Ericson late too." Jaysin said ushering them in the door.

Trey stopped and made a point of kissing Adam and headed in the building behind the kids. They stood there for a moment, still a little uncomfortable. Adam wasn't sure what to say or how to start this conversation, but he knew that it was years over due. But how were you supposed to start something so late.

"Gotta love the kids." Jaysin said.

"Do you wanna go on a walk?" Adam blurted in response. Jaysin looked him in the eyes, for the first time in a long time and smiled. They both began to laugh slightly.

"Yeah, I'd love to." Jaysin replied. They both walked down the stairs and hit the side-walk. Adam had to walk faster than he normally did to keep stride. "I was thinking maybe we could go to the Elephant Walk and have a little food." Jaysin offered.

"I'd like that." Adam replied.
