Bliss
What happiness is there in this material world of ours? If we add up all the enjoyment that could possibly be gained from hamburgers, sex with beautiful people, money, watching movies, and all the nice, fun things on this Earth planet, we’d be feeling shortchanged.
The truth is, not one bit of it lasts. Take, for example, the classic food addiction. You eat a burrito, and you love it. It’s the most exquisite burrito you’ve ever tasted. So, you come back again. Still good. You have it one more time. Not as good as the first time, but not bad. Over and over again, you keep returning, till you lose all the enjoyment you initially had. This happiness isn’t permanent, and that makes it an illusion, unreal.
Now, you say, that doesn’t necessarily apply to intangible things like love and friendship. Oh, but it does. Friends die, leave you, or forget about you. A great friendship may last you till death, but that’s as far as it will last. A great love will eventually wear down on you. The happiness you get from associating with people will become forced, as you start noticing inwardly their behavior flaws, minor things that bug you. If its made in this physical world, it won’t last.
This shouldn’t put you in some nihilistic state of mind. It should wake you up to reality. Know that things lose their zest, their ability to please. Search for true happiness, one that doesn’t fade. All I want you to do is open your mind to the fact that we live in a world devoid of eternal, lasting bliss.
