What Might Have Been

Our chance to be together
is rapidly passing us by
Why we're letting it slide
is beyond my comprehension ...

But life has that way
of interfering
with the sweetest of dreams
and casting a
dark
and heavy shroud
over loving hopes...

If you don't mind
I'll hold onto mine~
I'll take them out lovingly
when I need to smile
regretfully
caressing them
as l wonder
what you're doing
how you are
who you love ...

And I will dream
of what we once were ....
... and had ...
and wonder
if you're dreaming too....

Malnourished hearts
die a quiet death ...
...leaving nothing but
wistful thoughts...
of what might have been~

so emotionally profound. reminds me of the REM song/line: "this one goes out to the one I love, This one goes out to the one I left behind."

wow! It is very satisfying to find poetic work like this! Eller Wheller Wilcox is my hero in the poetic department - i think you'd like her work as you have a similar style.

I find your poem very refreshing with a beautiful flow.

"Malnourished hearts

...leaving nothing but

of what might have been~"

i LOVE this last verse! just perfect!
thank you
J.B.
