Milton said, Blake said
I think as much about existence
and non-existence
these days
as I used to about dope,
I think about so many people who are
so certain of God
but have never noticed the earth,
I think about time and pointless tasks
and whiskey and beer,
I think about the concepts
of heaven and hell.
Milton said Paradise Lost
when Lucifer was banished for fronting
a rebellion
in heaven.
if it gets above eighty-five degrees
I am sweating profusely
and cursing at the sun,
but I can't see wanting to stay in a place
where rebellion isn't recognized as necessary.
Blake said The Marriage of Heaven and Hell,
he highlighted the genius of a lion's savagery
as well as the obvious brilliance of the peacock strut,
he saw both sides
night and day
heaven and hell
pushing against one another
fighting to claim it all,
and the futility of their feud
was existence.
I believe in everything and I
believe in nothing,
and the only thing I can say for sure
is that I'm not certain
of a damn thing.
so perhaps when I go I'll just
chuckle, bow, step back
as the curtain drops
and shut up for once and all,
kinda
like
you wish
I would
right
now.
