Breaking News (Recall)

Breaking News (Recall)

An ambulance pulled away, no siren. Two highway patrolmen walked around a smoking pile of metal wrapped around a huge oak tree.

“Isn’t this the new XL-6?”

“It was. Doesn’t look like much, now. Too much speed for that corner. Didn’t help this old oak, either.”

“These babies are supposed to hold the road on corners like a race car.”

“Yeah. Funny thing, I heard on the news last night that the steering arm on the new model is defective. Gonna recall ‘em.”

“You know how that goes. There’s always one guy that doesn’t get the word.”

That's about right. I have known many in law enforcment. This would be just another 'day in the life of' to them. Thanks for reading, Scott. By the way, when are you going to upload something? Your readers have nothing to read, so it is not quite a fair exchange, because there is no exchange.

Liked the realistic patrolmen-dialogue. Telling the story through their eyes makes the scene seem like nothing new to them.

Thanks for the comments, Janet. Wouldn't you think that we would know how to make things right, by now?

Nice job, Al. Glad your back. Sad story--reminds me of the sub-standard thing I was slamming in my short. Seems like we're killing people every day because of short-cuts, shoddy work, and indifference. Good work. Send a copy to the paper next time you see a recall announcement. Bet they'll print it. Use it like a letter to the Editor. Janet

Anna, thank you. To my ear it could go either way, but accept your suggestion and will incorporate it. I guess you're right, and appreciate your close reading.
