Mysterious Endangerment

Arrogant tongue
wag polysyllabically
Impress us all
with your vocabulary
Your insightful impressions
of nature and beauty
Your sharp and timely
incisions of society

But rhyme has no place
such sophomoric disgrace
The academic accolades
require interface
with standards and practice
no notion of art
No execution wrought with
concept apart

Boastful mouth
flap retroactively
Inform us all
of your supposed faculty
Your random processes
of alleged discovery
Your lacked clarity
and flights of fancy

And verse has no space
in this marketplace
of sensational headlines
of sex and of race
Archaic outdated
outmoded what’s more
there’s not really much
left here to explore…

but I beg to differ!
You I implore!
Don’t let them hunt mystery
‘til none lives any more
It’s lurking in alleys
and even next door
Awaiting the dreams of new children
to revive and restore
