Velvet Water-Revised-5/08

*******************************************

In the few hours before sunrise,
I hear the lake behind my house
whispering in my ear.
Teasing.
Tempting.
Glistening,
under moonlight rays.

I pull off the restraints
that bind and keep me.
Sneaking out of my prison
while everyone sleeps.

Liberation!

I pull my spun nightgown over my head
dropping it carelessly at my feet
as a flirting wave of air caresses my skin.

Butterfly waves tickle my toes.
I glide past the surface
letting the water envelop each part of my body
dissecting it inch by inch.
I flow down its current,
the embodiment of Aphrodite
far from shore.

Fish slide up and down me
turning the cold water into a current of fire.
I ride it
round and round
until I am once again on dry land.

I lie on fresh earth
the grit of dirt on liquid skin.
My eyes are heavy with sleep.
The dawn arrives
and I find myself once again
in the confines of my prison.

Yeah, I think I like the change you suggested.

I have to let the piece breath a couple of days before I make any changes.
