"The Servants Tale" A Canterbury Tale Second Revision (whole thing still in progress)

A/N: ok so in AP English we are studying Geoffrey Chaucer and his Canterbury Tales. As a project we have to come up with our own and well here is the beginning to the one I am writing. Any ideas and comments would come in handy here.

The king of England did not well know
to whom his crown, he should bestow.
He had a son, an heir to the throne
but he had twice been disowned.
He compared his son to a meager servant
something rude, crude, and much less important.
And yet he knew that a servant was twice as fair
and that the servant his town would take care.
The king sent for his favorite servant,
the one he knew was fair and valiant.
The one that had been with him since his mothers womb torn
and with this an idea was born.
Likewise he sent one of his men to a brothel in town
where he knew his son would sure be found.
"Alas, I shall prove which one is more deserving of this crown,
and which of the two will have his name renown.
The servant entered into the royal court.
Anxious his lips, his breathing quick and short,
for surely he had done some harm.
"Like Judas I have done my wrong
and I stand here pleading clemence.
Just tell me what and I will accept my penitence."
That fair servant was scared out of his mind.
I'm sure that if you were to check, in his pants you were sure to find.
A big brown streak of fecal matter.
With in a few more seconds there was sure to be a rupture of a bladder.
"Calm down, you are not here because you did harm.
I have called you here because of your charm.
You are a honorable man of great wisdom,
and I'd like to give you a chance at my kingdom."
The servant did not understand why a king
would offer his crown to a puppet on a string.
The heavy wooden door burst open with a such clatter
that if your ears were made of glass they would sure shatter.
"Father why do you beseech of me?
What is here that is for me to see?"
There was an exchange of looks between the prince,
and the servant, who looked like he could use a rinse.
"Alright now that you are both here,
I have something that both of you should hear.
As you well know I am on my last months of life.
I have been threw many battles and had my share of strife,
My only dying wish is that I leave me crown to a man
who this great kingdom can safely and graciously maintain.
I have a task for the both of you to do.
I task that will leave the king to be in plain view."
The prince was at the verge of eruption.
He already had plans for his reign of corruption.
"I will not ask of you to jump threw many hoops,
or to go out and raise some troops.
All you have to do to gain my trust and crown,
is to find the prettiest lady that can be found.
Find her and make her your wife,
just know that you will be with her for life.
You have a year to complete this task,
lets just hope that that long I do last."
The prince almost burst out in laughter and sneers.
He knew he could find one after a round of beers.
"Why do you give us a task that is so easy?
It will be easy to find a lady with my money."
And with that the prince left, not even taking a second look
at the man who looked like he could be a crook.

This is very good. I had to laugh at the last three lines. So far you are doing a very good job and I would love to see how it ends. I wish poetry were my genre so I could give you some helpful hints, but it is not. I like what I see, though, and hope you share the rest with us. Good writing!

Cantebury Tales are pretty fun. I won't burden you with my usual way of critiquing...which is to take everything and mangle it out of its original written form. The way the poem flows does have that nice, playful jist to it, which is nice, considering the topic. A fun read.
