BEYOND REACH (unfinished)

i have lost count
lost count
of the many times
we bid farewell

one too many times
we've turned around
and have no courage
to walk away

i lie to myself to spite you
only to find myself longing
longing for you
night
after night
after night

knocked from the pedestal
i plummet
to the pit of inconsequence
your lip service
my fragile safety net

your absence now like the ground disappearing
stormswept
from underneath my feet

my arms outstretched
flailing
in desperation
as the chasm widens at a
frightening speed

the gall of you to blame me
blame me for this fire
in my soul
ablaze solely for you

how could one not be moved
by your being
and not embrace life with
utmost gratitude
