Poor Mr. Cheney, or as some of his friends and a great many of his enemies call him, "Dick", he is so terribly misunderstood. Congress is mulling over articles of impeachment, press pundits such as Keith Olberman are calling for his resignation or impeachment, and a majority of Americans agree.

His enemies cover a wide spectrum of political thought. Vladimir Putin lashed out at Vice President Dick Cheney, calling his recent criticisms of Russia "an unsuccessful hunting shot," and Democratic presidential frontrunner Hilary Clinton has referred to him as Darth Vader.

Last year, he was the subject of a lot of media criticism after a hunting accident in which he shot a lawyer. Which of us hasn't wanted to do that?

So what if he told a fellow Republican to "go f*k youself"? Don't a lot of people say, or at least feel like saying that to a lot of Republicans?

And should anyone be surprised that he sometimes falls asleep during cabinet meetings? He stays up late at night looking for Americans whose phone calls need to be monitored.

His heart is in the right place. It even has a mechanical backup system.

So please be kind to the old duffer. He can't help it that he bears a strong resemblance to Daddy Warbucks.
