Finders/Keepers
he crumples the map in his fist,
a single glance is all he needs
to be the first one at the red X.
sprinting there isn't hard,
and neither is digging up the chest
from the cold, dark dirt.
the challenge is always handing it over
to the birthday boy or girl
who bears a glittery paper crown.
