Unconditional Love
If you care to keep your life peaceful
Don't go after unconditional love
It'll twist you and turn you
And reveal that love
Was never what you thought it was
Bringing to the surface
Everything you've ever denied love to
All your anger, hate, jealousies
Everything you've seen as negativity
And your shadow, oh your shadow
It brings that up too
Get ready to get really intimate with it
You won't know what hit you
One by one, they all become you
Everything that you were SURE
Was not you
Anything you've been against and
Thought you'd never be
Judgments made, preferences, condemnations
Get ready to say hi
To all of your old friends
Can you love yourself now?
Now that you are that monster
You've been judging against
Can you love yourself...
When you're hurting others, in
The same ways they've hurt you?
Can you love yourself...
Now that you embody everything
That you couldn't stand?
Stuff you swore only resided in
The most evil and lowest
Consciousness of man
How about others... can you love them?
While looking through the eyes of rage,
Distrust, jealousy, and fear
Can you love another, while
Feeling like you don't even
Deserve love yourself?
Will you still love your enemy,
When that enemy is you?
When the pain is so thick and personal
That there's no difference
Between it and you
You won't have your beliefs to fall back on
Nor philosophical justifications
This time.. oh, this time
Only TRUE acceptance can save you
Do you still want it?
Now that you see
What you'd have to go through
Do you have what it takes...
To truly, honestly, and unconditionally
Love... YOU
