Cup of Soup

a.k.a. Filipino American Dream
Many times has she served me.
Many times I’ve not the words, to say.
She asked, a bowl or a cup?
No, a cup will be just fine.
Excess would ruin the favor.
My apology, my lady; forgive me.
No apology needed.
As she walks away...
My mind begins to drift...
Yes, I want to know you like a cup of soup
Homemade just like mother use to make
Laid out on an empty table
All the freshness from a morning market
While the pot brews to a boil
As your broth begins to simmer
Adding ingredients to the texture
Aroma fills the air with incense
In a taste test to your embrace
Adding a pinch of salt
A dash of pepper
Pouring your soul to fine china
Absorbing the moment in fulfillment
Like no other can satisfy my hunger
Only if she’d let me say the words?
Only if I’d truly tasted the cup of soup...
