Soul Mate Sonnet
Soul Mate
Watchful stars spread out across the night sky
guardians and companions of our fate
to keep the company of you and I
forever the other’s happy soul mate.
Love’s spring gently bubbled deep in my breast
pure water offered to quench the dry tongue
of traveler paused, taking journey’s rest,
reviving worn age to pleasure of young.
In wishful mind-thoughts the other’s presence
seemed as delicious as indulgent treat,
brought smiles of impatient happiness
but body reality proved not sweet.
A falling, burnt rock became of love’s dream
when up close I confronted your hygiene.
