“Where am I?” Paula blinked, struggling to see past the fuzzy gray blanketing her eyes.
A small girl with a dirty face and matted pigtails materialized at her right side. She leaned in close with a giggle and whispered in Paula’s ear, “You’re in H. E. Double Hockey Sticks."
A chorus of chuckles erupted from the sea of grubby faces encircling them. Paula was disoriented and apprehensive. “H. E. double hockey sticks? Do you mean...hell?”
“Ooo!” The chorus of chuckles morphed into chants of condemnation. “She said a naughty word!”
“No, I didn...”
WHACK!
