Memory

I remember it well
I was coming home from a friend’s
It was a cold day
In the month of February

I got out of the van
And went up the front steps
I made it in the house
And knew something was wrong

They were all there
Standing in the kitchen
Red patches under their eyes
And then I heard

The news hit me
Like a blast of heat
Coming of the Red Line
In the middle of July

I was in disbelief
It was all over
The unexpected ending
To the short life
