FOOTNOTES:
1. "Words" is meant to be an arrangement of words (A to Z) on lines like musical notes.
2. Most of the words are from my daily journal in which I record new words to look up in the dictionary:
breccia, exegete, gneiss, natter, nocioception, phylactery, soteriology, synocious, telluric, usufruct, and zerrissenheit.
3. Some words are neologisms (made up words): assinacious, igottagopeea, diuquil, firehydrophant, lexicopsychophant.
4. Klattu barada nikto is Michael Renee's instructions to the robot Klattu in the movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still".

| Busted out laughing at "igottagopeea" and the chain of words were what Lennon forgot to add to "I Am The Walrus", heh heh. (Expert, texpert, choking smokers, don't you think the joker laughs at you . . .) |

Jeez Phill---------This is a visual masterpiece.
Never would have caught "Klattu barada nikto" without the footnotes for scrambling through Webster's pretending to keep up! lol
F***king hysterical and fantastic. Oh, and sorry about using your name in "Love Slick," but the tankini called to me. (evil grin) |

The sequel!
I enjoy the footnote; my comment prior had not been born out of a direct message I'd taken from the piece itself, but a simple astonishment of impact. The word-sounds, visual effect created by the more chaotic patterns of the letters contrasted with the hard straightness of the lines in between, and the descending stair-step arrangement of them certainly had an effect very quickly, even if I did not immediately take a concrete, straightforward message. It's certainly an effective manipulation of language, if not in an entirely conventional sense, to my eye... and conveys a sense of 'tripping through' ideas and language. I guess it's a good association for me because in many arenas of my life (well, really, any new endeavor) I tend to just leap into with both feet and feel, for a period, as though I'm desperately grasping at ideas that I have an incomplete understanding of, rather than preparing myself with weeks of calculated research and study (boring!). So, this piece reminded me very viscerally of -that- feeling.
RE: The footnote: Good call on taking Alien's advice to add one; it's a fascinating peek into process and definitely gave me some new angles by which to look at this. The musical notes idea is pretty neat, an unusual marriage between musical concepts and linguistic ones. In that light, it makes me think of contemporary choral music I used to sing as a kid. |

| I apologize for being too abstract. I've appended some footnotes which may help. |

Just quickly - your clickable link takes me to your profile page and I had to seacrh for your poem so just make sure you check your links where possible. Not a problem, just a consideration for the furture.
As for the poem, when I said abstract, I wasn't sure what people would come up with! This definitely fits the bill :D
I wonder if any of your other commenters are really 'getting' it, though or whether they're just blindly applauding you because it's so different (as their comments are so empty, I assume the latter). I don't know what it means, and I'm being honest at risk of sounding stupid. The sounds you produced here and really delicious but what does it all actually MEAN? I don't even know half of the words (and I'm not getting a dictionary out, I'll be here all day) so I couldn't really get to grips with whether there were any meaningful relationships beyond the sounds.
I think even abstract art has to mean something, even if it's just to the creator - what does this poem mean for you? I really think an explanatory footnote is required with this one, mate. |
