Wildfire

Wildfire © 2008
written by Glen Yumang Manese
a.k.a. Filipino American Dream

There are times when I look at you
That I’d rather not
For the sake of letting my armor down
And fall from grace

To those temptations finding their pollution
Would do no harm
Intermingling with artificial interceptors
Invading my mind

To confuse all thought
That satisfaction is a one night stand
Against the core values built not of wood
To set an ensuing wildfire blazing out of control

That even water cannot extinguish the sins of silence
Reflecting the truth so visible
That the smooth surface of concrete
Shows the lies in full view

The cracks run like veins in the skin
Etched with the bad blood of influence
Which reckons no favorable return
Slowly smoldering levels of foundation

Though the construction of brick lay standing
Disease has killed all doubt within
That I not take value for a price tag
What wrath wishes to finish with vengeance

The smoke screen fills the lungs in guilt
Burns the flesh of the weak
Sheds no tear to inflict lacerations for the meek
All for the actions of daunted lust

Pleas with the conception that all is not loss
Patience was duly mistaken for lack of judgement
Not even the purification of blue can mend
Just to know the ashes are a constant reminder

In this battle to the ongoing flame being ignited
Testing the soul to purge with each blink of the eyes
There is no measure in pursuit to be together
No sirens will negate such fixation

Inconceivable to the musical ballads
That focus is blinded at times to abstraction
Disposition controls the length
Furthermore, the width expands tolerance

That bind a ring of protection
Within the chain mail holds the heart
Departs not to the claim of indigenous
Only dedication to life’s end with you
