Happily Ever After

White pickets surround societies’ treasured fable of love
but do we live there?
Our reflection mirrors not a word.

Quickening heartbeats permeated our shells of singularity
creating a blissful matrix of our makeup, kissed by the divine.
Our lives intertwined
leaving us to sort the details
in the afterglow.
Still, in the shadow of chaos
my new prince
slayed the dragon of doubt which had held me captive.
Fleeing unto the partially laid path of the unknown
we strolled hand in hand
skipping the potholes of convention
for the wanderlust of our wit and intuition.
Yet lying just yonder awaited a detour of habit
untouched by the face of truth.
We stumbled
and bruised our carriage.
Stunned, we are suddenly faced with the ambiguous
what is love?
who is love?
how is love…
when it doesn’t go as planned?
Glenda cast the unspoken spell of reason
for the joining of two souls
to heal
to learn
to grow
from the unsavory side of our hearts content,
leaving one yearning for Sleeping Beauty’s potion until the conflict is resolved
only to remember she lives solely in fantasyland.
Wistful of the storybook
we trudge through reality
to unearth our ethereal toll and resume paving the unknown pass before us
in time for the debut of our new novel
due soon.
