Destined to Die?

What if you had a goal
And 50% of those who reach this goal
Physically die
What if you had to give up everything
That you've ever loved or held dear
Would you still strive?

What if it was your 'destiny'
And there was nothing else
In this world for you but this
Would you go in peace?
Or constantly resist?

What if resistance meant more suffering
In addition to the tribulations
Already built into this endeavor
What if it was also what you loved most
In this life... your greatest passion
And you committed to do it 'no matter what'

Would you feel happy and free?
Or resentful and trapped?
With no choice
But to follow your uncertain destiny

The thing about this goal is that once you reach it, there is no success and nothing gained. Since the individual identity disappears into the 'whole', there is no one left to enjoy a success or celebrate.

By merging with the Self or realizing Oneness with God.. is realizing oneness with All/Everything.. so there is no 'otherness'. Friends and family are viewed as not separate or special but as another aspect of the same self.. so there is no one to share the success with either.

The normal rules for goal setting and achieving don't apply to this. Even the goal has to be given up as a distraction.. as another attempt at 'self-gain'.

Is it still worth it? Worth giving up everything and taking that risk?

The sweet savour is not in striving but attaining the victory. Most who strive do not look at the personal costs involved. There is no equal balance in personal ambition and values lived. A one in two chance seems like good odds when the pay off is viewed as greater than the risks. From my own perspective, what profits a man all the riches on earth if he should lose his soul? If my goals make life unbearable to others or if they do not think I should do it, I could not ask them to sacrifice on my behalf or to support me. If it is a noble end I pursue, then I would cease at the point of endangering those I love. If everyone I loved had in graves lain, as they now do in all forms of death, then no risk would be too great.
God have mercy on the man who has no dream, but more mercy on the man who has no loved one to share that success.

It was insightful, very true to the point on what we do matters in this life, whether personally or obligatory, but entrapment occurs when people expect.Do we really live our lives the way we want to live them;is it out of choice?

Rich inner life you portrayed here..which otherwise gets numbed. I do like insights more than images and sounds of outer life.

Thanks for the nice read.

June.
