If You Should Ever Leave

If I could make the perfect friend,
I'd make him just like you.
I'd take stuff from column A
And add some stuff from column B.
I'd mix and add and recreate
The perfect person next to you.

If I could build the perfect friend,
I'd make him just like you.
With brilliant eyes and arms for hugging.
I'd add some backbone for his strength,
With soggy shoulders from my tears;
I'd make the next best you.

If I could want the perfect friend,
I'd want another you.
People would look at us and say,
"What a perfect pair."
But we'd correct them and say.
"No, just perfect friends."

If I could choose the perfect friend,
I'd always choose you.
Always ready with a joke or a smile just for me.
To study homework or stay out late,
I'm so happy to be with you.

If I could see the perfect friend,
I'd always look for you.
Outshining others in a crowd, you are the brightest star.
Off in the distance and far away,
You'll always be here by my side.

If I could feel the perfect friend,
I'd want to hold your hand.
So strong and stable and always there.
It's your hand holding me up
When I feel like I am about to fall.

If I could hear the perfect friend,
I'd listen just to you.
The voice so soft and caring, there's no other more sincere.
Always knowing what to say to keep the fears inside,
Your singing voice telling of your praise for me.

The perfect friend is you, I know.
Love and laughter and sense of adventure,
Never afraid to pick up and go.
If I could be the perfect friend,
I'd want to be you.
