Roger
brought to me a
Long stemmed
Beauty
Unequal to mine
Or so he said…
I let it wither away
Fragile
Browned
With the same
Neglect
I showed
To him …

Samuel sent
An exotic bouquet
Sweetly scented
Arranged as
Perfectly as
Waxed orchids
Blooming in
A tropical heat
I left them out
In the cold
To die
As his heart did
When I broke it …

William purchased
For me a
Bird of Paradise
Vivid in color
Exotically wild
To match his
Tempestuous
Wild child
It caught every eye
And heart
But mine …

Andrew had
Delivered
A tiny arrangement
Delicate shades
Of pinks and corals
Guaranteed
to appeal
To the woman in me
They did not
And I watered them
With my
Indifference

Ronald lay
Me down
In a bed of
Blood hot
Red petals
Signifying
The death
Of love
And life
As I knew it
Never again
To bloom
And
blossom

And so
My world
Was left barren
Shallow
Fallow
Untouched
By love’s
Gardener

Then you
In your quiet
Approach
Brought me
No roses
No scents
No delicacies to
Please and
Appease
My womanly
Vanities
…No …

Your gift to me
Was a brightly
Potted Rainbow
Lovingly tendered
Your hands
Soiled
By the simplicity
Of your loving
Gesture

Carefully
Planting the
Seeds of
Hope and
Love in
Once hardened
Infertile soil
You brought me
Spring

And now
I bloom
In your garden …
