Keep the Wonder

I bounced around and saw the elephant and
heard the owl and wondered at the way things
work, and watched the World and didn't think
it meant the things it said.

I smiled at girls in Piccadilly, and a girl in
Salzburg took me home. I wondered at the
Past and Futures we both had, unspoken, grateful
for the Present and the way Life has of going on.

I thirsted for a poet's words, a painter's tone,
a sculptor's touch to illustrate my thoughts,
we learn by teaching and by passing on the little
Truths within ourselves, decoding personal mysteries.

The bee within the flower and the sounding whale
gone deep, both within their universe, I watching
them from mine and wondering, what do you see,
what do you feel, where are you now...I wonder

what became of yesterday, a blink and then it's
gone, and I wonder if I wrote it down, so someone
else can read about it so it can become today, and
so live on. The remembering and the passing on

of words to paint that moment and the marveling
at life's eccentric paths and where they took me
and...what was that! A thought that almost got
away, I'll write it down and then...I wonder.

Phil, we can tinker with words all we want, and it doesn't cost a cent. Thanks.

Glad you liked it Heidi. We all have our reasons for writing.

Arley, I guess a writer without a pencil is like a photographer with no film. So we sometimes have to remember, and do the best we can.

Very good, Al! Whether we're trying to capturing a truth, large or small, or just a moment in time, it do matter to us weird writers, don't it, heh heh? Great ending!

Next time someone asks me "Why should I write?" I will refer him/her to your poem. Thank you for stating it so beautifully and so clearly.
