Battle of the Mind

Battle of the Mind
A Poem by Identitycrisis

Battle of the mind

Always in it, disaster

look without judgement, around

See the same, feel it?

One must figure in

the reason..forgiveness

or not, distractions swirling

'round angry, insecurity, disappointment

Falter..pulling imagination, yearnings

blame shortcomings, not brilliance?

To fret or not, misgivings vicious

Being strong despite the weakness

Difficult, distant travel

Snap, falter and flounder

battle of the mind

ferocious distractor

Since I am somewhat learning disabled when it comes to most poetry (I'm going to blame dyslexia and my mother), my value as a reader of poems is rather dubious. Maybe my main value in this regard is in helping to determine how accessible or inaccessible a poem is to a semi-literate person on the "outside" (assuming that even matters).

So, while most of this poem resonates with me at a personal level because I am, well, rather fucked up, there are other parts that not even my warped mind can quite get a handle on. For instance, no matter how many times I read it, I can't seem to figure out "look without judgement, around - See the same, feel it?" or "Falter..pulling imagination, yearnings."

All of which means not that there's anything wrong with the poem - only that it is sometimes a bit opaque to people like me.

By the way, I love the last 3 lines...
