Their dance

Their smiles betray them

His eyes dance as he catches a glimpse
Her eyes smile out of coy corners
Compelled, he makes his way to her
And though the music changes
It’s still their song

She is claimed before he reaches her
But she knows this dance
Engaging her moves toward him
Choreographing each step
Beginning a waltz of exchange

And when they meet
Their feet glide lightly
Complementing; partnering
In lingering, graceful moves
As a new genre is created
From each measure to the next
And for infinite measures to come

As time passes and bodies age
Their youth becomes remembrance
Still, it is what they see
As he takes her by the hand
To float across the floor again
In a tired old room
Where the children used to play

And their smiles betray them still
