Going Solo

We like too many of the same things and we have too little in common.

Do you understand? We get along too well and are too easy-going; we never fight, though we should. You are too angry; I am too pragmatic.

I love you too much to marry you; I hate you too much to let you off easy.

Sometimes I hope you will lose control and hit me. You’ve done it to others. I am afraid of being alone, and I no longer love you, and I don’t know how to tell you. I want an excuse to leave.

If I break up with you, I am an ungrateful bitch. I want to be in the right.

Sometimes, I try to make you hate me. If I am annoying, childish, too liberal, perhaps you will love me less.

Miss me less.

Stop loving me, or I’ll never leave you.

Every relationship is full of contradictions, I suppose that's what keeps us coming back for more (punishment). Heartfelt stuff.

A powerful short piece that shows the trap so many people find themselves in. The voice in this poem is not alone. There should be classes in how to discover as much as possible about other people before we make commitments.
I've known people in bad relationships that are afraid to leave because they are afraid they will not find anyone else.

enjoed the struggle. so true the contradictions we live with in love.

I was curious what caused this train of thought for the character...then I realised we all so often think this way for no apparent reason other than complacency.

nice one

I really enjoyed reading this piece. Though it is very short it perfectly sums up a complex situation, and like someone else said, how do you know about my life? lol. Well done.

No wasted words in this one. Don't you wish that it would just come out like that when the feeling arises?

I love the "choppiness" of the piece. It helps me to feel the fragmented thought process of this internal struggle. Thanks for the good read, D.
