With a bitter
Twist of lemon
Excellent music

Joy sneaks up on you
shushing down hills
On powdered snow
At forty below
Wind whipping
Your back
Leaving you behind
Caressing frostbite pain

Smoke
Chases laughter
Around a Sierra campfire
Full of jokes
With snow on the ground
Driving away
Cancer
Heart disease
Diabetes
Holding the end
At bay
Keeping it
At arm’s length

Say ‘happiness’ softly
Taste it
Smell it
Touch it
Say,
‘I love you.’
Smile
Kiss
Hold hands
Pure magic

It’s true
Misery
Anger
Depression.
Trails behind
Like sticky gum
On the bottom
Of a shoe
Run with the wind
Don’t let it catch you

Chasing delight
Through streets
On mountain bikes
With twenty or more speeds
For pleasure
In a cherry flavored
Snow cone
A banana split
Like friendly ghosts
A shadow
Taunts us with
Tickling giggles
Diminishing pain

Climb a mountain
To the summit
Where bliss is
Dark chocolate
A root beer float
Illusive as the other side of the moon
A good comedy romance
Brushes the soul
Healing heartbreak

Did you hear the baby
Laughing at butterflies
Reaching for beauty?
