Cogitation

Not by well worn news
or melted thoughts of you
do I try to break through

Not from well torn blues
or crushed ego muse
will I begin to choose

When night closes its blinds
and the wind rattles you name
I turn to shuffle my cards
and store them away

Not to be outdone
or to avoid a truth
do I want to run

Not for lacking a view
or liquid thoughts you
will I conceive anew

LOL! Lloyd, I do like the occasional drink, more to plaster thoughts to the wall, but then you will always find me in the kitchen at parties. :)

This poem paints a word picture of a narrator that is afraid of falling in love or afraid of trusting that he is making a good choice. It sounds like he uses booze to escape making the decision.

sydni... the greatest reward for me is to leave others with their own thoughts and feelings from my words. If they resonate something, its job done, thank you most sincerely. :) fisherman... interesting perspective, I have thoughts on everything you said, but I never realized they leaked out so much in this work. Even now I'm cogitating! Bebe... I was listening to the Leonard Cohen song "Bird on a Wire"; something in the lyrics clicked in me and wham! ia... You are correct, the spell-check didn't recognize it was 'anew' and separated the word, thanks for spotting. I’m not sure about “recipe for expurgation” but definitely “introspective cogitation” (self- interrogation?) fits nicely. I think it’s something we all do, even subconsciously.

Thank you all for some great thoughts; amazing and beautiful!

"Not for lacking a view
or liquid thoughts you
will I conceive a new"
This is inconclusive to me, perhaps I am dim.
Should 'a new' be 'anew'?
For me, thinking is captured in something which I think poets relate to too well. Sometimes, I find myself pressed to tinker with words or pull something from my insides.

"Not from well torn blues
or crushed ego muse
will I begin to choose"

Crushed ego and well-torn blues; recipe for expurgation, precursory method to interrogation, introspective cogitation.
