Outside Chance-Wee Challenge#42
He had an outside chance of winning her back, but his hopes were diminishing with each passing day. She’d had enough of his crap. He knew it was all his fault. Accepting it was much harder.
Rich walked the streets, lost in thought. Annie was everything. What she’d seen in him was a mystery. By the time he realized his mistakes, it was too late.
“How can I prove I’ve changed?” Rich begged, with no shame.
“You’d have to pull a baby from a burning building.” Annie couldn’t even look at him.
He stopped at an intersection, and looked up as an SUV crashed into the side of a minivan. A young woman slumped over the van’s steering wheel.
Rich rushed over and yanked open the door. Cries from the backseat reached his ears at the same moment he smelled smoke.
“Lady, get out of the car!” He raced to the passenger side, climbed in and grabbed the tiny baby.
Flames erupted as Rich reached the sidewalk. “Wonder if a burning car counts?”

Hmm, yep, I'm not too keen on the convenient ending here, Vickie - it's not a bad story, but I've definitely seen you do better - oh, let's face it, I normally love all of your stories. But, yeah - this one just stretched credulity a little too far.
Cheers

| Wow. That was kind of dark, to make light of burning buildings. Very nice little story you've got here. What a way to get a woman, by saving a baby for her. Of course, that cuts down on the whole process of making babies... |

| No problem, Wanda. I didn't waste valuable real estate in the story explaining what 'his crap' was. |

| Yikes, ignore my comment about Annie sounding like an unfeeling b**ch. |

I must confess this is a bit autobiographical; sort of, anyway. I remember telling my ex he'd have to rescue a baby from a burning building before I'd consider taking him back. Then I had nightmares that he'd actually manage to do that, and I'd be eating my words. So the comical element of crazy coincidence is more what this is about. The one in a million chance that something like that could actually happen and he be right there. Not likely, but...
Anyway, he didn't and I didn't and yes, he may be better off without me, considering my aversion to cheaters and liars. I'm certainly better off without him. |
