Joseph Heller Learns How To Wait (406 words)
Joseph Heller Learns How To Wait by Matthew Ward
In 1962 in Sweden Joseph Heller was stalked by a man who never said a word but he knew the man was there.
One day he yelled out for the man to leave him alone but the man just yelled back that to leave him alone he must first make an appointment.
Heller, out of options, agreed and there it was on a Monday morning that Joseph Heller waited to meet a man called Yossarian, funnily enough the same name of his hero from his novel Catch-22.
In the cafe Heller ordered a coffee and then after 2 hours asked the waiter if he had heard of this Yossarian.
The waiter said yes, and that Yossarian was unique in that he had learned the importance of being on time and that he would only meet Heller if Heller was not there. If Heller was there, he would not meet him. If Heller was gone, Yossarian would be there right on time, sometimes earlier.
