I Had A Book

I had a book I treasured
With all my heart,
You came
and laughed at my book,
so I threw it away

Now, in my mind,
my book still lives,
while your laughter
quietly dies.

When we subordinate ourselves to others it is always a sacrifice. The juxtaposition of living and dying is very evocative.

Hi Juliet, I think it's a sad state that we all too often allow what others think influence us. I did it for years and still struggle with it. This is a powerful picture of a growing independent spirit. It also makes me think of your profile in making a decison to "re-boot your life." You go girl. Janet

The book was your subconscious, the laughter your ego. :)

Juliet, this is brief but vey sweet. I understand how simply you've expressed the things we really treasure! Well done.
