Public consumption
You hadn't heard of pedestals
which I thought was novel back then.
Instead you bought me double vodkas and insisted on diet coke.
We found rich dark corners
got pissed and talked in filthy language.
You watched me adjust my bra I watched you adjust
Maybe we were pre-occupied
with the basking in unconvention,
with the onslaught against the half wits -
who thought us moody, unforgiving, offensive even.
How could she?
Why would he?
I answered their whispers a billion times inside my head.
And still, despite the age gap,
despite the drinking,
despite the plain and darkened attitude..
I want to touch you.
I want to hear you
make poetry in bed.
