BARD OF AVON

there aren’t dainty words in your new play
no midnight encounters
no stolen kisses
no hugs
no secret love
Juliet stands across the rooftop not wanting more
the gelid stage has the evening air of cold friendship blended with wintry wind and icy autumn
I wait for her to tell me she’s climaxed
but this time she won’t
because feelings have changed
she will do it soave
with no tears and perhaps a breath of relief
she’ll let the love dissipate
silently
into insignificant void which will rain down for the next few months and its downpour will blend with my tears to the standing ovation of viewers
