Foot Prints on the Sand

The two boys hurried along the narrow path between the thorn bushes. Time was closing down on them. The red sunset sun was slowing sliding down and soon it will be pitch dark. And darkness was their biggest enemy.

They have walked this journey many times before, but not at night time. As they forced their way through the bushes, their father's voice kept ringing in the ears.

'You should take of your mother.'

That time it didn't make sense until now. Their mother Lana has been sick for sometime now. The last time she was really down; she got help from the 'sankoma' traditional doctor, who lives 15km from their home.
She got better after drinking some traditional herbs, of which she paid for with two chickens.

Taking their mother to the hospital meant visiting her not often as they couldn't afford the bus fare, so sankoma was their only hope.

They collected some pieces of firewood along the way. As this was the only weapon against the king of the animals 'lion.' Lana meant a lot to the boys after the death of their father. Nothing was going to stop them from fetching the sankoma.

Fresh footprints on the sand brought their journey to a halt. It was Time to make fire. They took turns to keep it burning throughout the night.

As dawn draws near, the lioness and her family started moving slowly away. And the two boys continued with their journey. They had to catch up with sankoma before she left her house for other patients.
