I have been writing since childhood, to include cartoons, horror fiction and songs/musical theatre. Besides having my musical 'Love from Above' performed twice at a theatre in Los Angeles in 1991 and 1998 (visit www.americanmusicals.com for more information), I have also written a great deal of songs, two of which I am most proud of: 'The Man Everybody Wants' and 'Dear Mr. Sellers'; respectively, a 007 theme song and a tribute to the late, great Peter Sellers.
The music video for the 007 song was premiered at the Bond Weekend 2000 in New Orleans as well as being shown at the 'Licence to Thrill' event in London in November 2000 and at the Spyfest Weekend in 2003 on board the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. The song also received praise from the late Desmond 'Q' Llewelyn, who said it was "very much in the Bond tradition", and Bond authors Philip Lisa and Lee Pfeiffer ('The Incredible World of 007') said the song had "good potential" and was "definitely in the style of the early songs".
In addition, the Sellers tribute song was adopted by the Peter Sellers Appreciation Society (www.petersellersappreciationsociety.com), with Burt 'Cato' Kwouk calling the song "very nice" and Sellers biographer Ed Sikov said the song was "very accurate...touching and sweet-tempered". My interview with the society chairperson, Dimitris Verionis, was also published in the society magazine in 2002.
Nowadays my writing focuses on short stories with twist endings and I have six stories published at www.fictionontheweb.co.uk. I also teach at the University of Manchester in the Education department. Since the 'death' of my previous website at the hands of an Albanian group, my new site can be found by following the homepage link above and then typing in 'alex baratta'. All information about my publications, education and teaching can be found here.
