I'm not entirely sure I would call myself a writer. I mean, I write, I'm reasonably well-versed in handling a pen, but I don't know that I have the drive, determination, and ability to be a "writer." At least, not to the exclusion of all else.
Most of my writing takes the form of rants, whereby I expound upon topics that irk me, including Canadian Imperialism, Confederation, the Seal Hunt, and my homeland, just to name a few topics. I also occasionally find myself trying my hand at songwriting, usually in a decidedly classical folk style, and because any decent song rhymes, poetry is inevitable a follower.
I occasionally write a piece of prose or two, usually in a "high fantasy" vein, or a creation myth in the same. I don't know that I'll ever win a Pulitzer, or anything, but I would like to be recognized for my research and writing into the new evolution in folk music that exists under the amusing appellation of "filk."
My current major project involves research into so-called "traditional" songs (a term that invokes my ire in it's non-specificity and overuse), and documenting them based on distinctive terminology, imagery, and theme as accurately as possible.
