AUTHOR PROFILE
Chris McIvor was born in Caithness, northern Scotland, where he lived until the age of 18 before attending University to study philosophy and English literature. He has worked for the last 24 years in emergency response and development work in countries as diverse as Morocco, Sudan, Algeria, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica and Zimbabwe where he was employed as the representative of an international aid organisation for the past 7 years. Chris is now on his way to Mozambique to take up a similar post for the next few years as programme director. He has written numerous articles for a variety of journals and newspapers about development issues and is the author of several books on the environment, land reform, disability, child rights and participation. Much of his work in the various countries where he had been fortunate enough to live and interact with the local population is to seek ways in which their stories and life histories are recorded and given a voice. He believes that successful aid work depends on nurturing a profound respect for the lives and views of the people who are being supported. Chris has published several short stories in Northwords and West Coast magazine. Much of his writing reflects his experiences in Africa over the course of his travels, as well as his home background in the far north of Scotland.
