Angela Martinez Dy is a more-than-meets-the-eye poet and spoken word artist who credits isangmahal arts kollective and its audiences for giving her the courage to begin speaking at age fifteen. She now teaches and mentors other young writers by way of the literary arts organization Youth Speaks Seattle as well as the Writers in the Schools Program. Angela was a three-time member of the Seattle Youth Poetry Slam teams (2000-02), coached the Seattle Youth Poetry Slam teams to Nationals for the past four years, and has performed on stages nationwide. She teaches writing and performance workshops at high schools and colleges throughout the area, and is currently the writer-in-residence at Chief Sealth High School in West Seattle. She recently began emceeing as El Dia, and has found rhyming to be her new favorite medium of expression. In 2004, she produced one chapbook of her poetry, entitled Common Sensuality. Another is in the works.
