All Commonwealth citizens are eligible to participate in the competition. There is no age limit and entries can come from either amateur or professional writers.

Entries are now invited for the 2008-9 Commonwealth Short Story Competition. There is no entry fee or form. Only the winners will be notified and entries will not be acknowledged or returned. The deadline for receipt of entries is 1 May, 2008.

And if you're wondering what the hell is the Commonwealth. Well, it's The UK and all it's former colonies.
All Commonwealthers go check the site.

Thanks for the heads up, Violet. I’ve enjoyed listening to some of them in past years.

Um, Not ALL former colonies are members of the Commonwealth of Nations! Don’t want to start an international incident here on Editred! :)

The thirteen original colonies of the USA were once former colonies of the UK. Does that mean we can enter, too? J

According to Google there are 53 counries presently. So if your country had not withdraw like Zimbabwe,or it hasn't been suspended like Fiji and Pakistan you're in.

Hey Janet,I didn't see the U.S name in the list so I think Uncle Sam is out. But if you're residing in the U.S and have documentation poving that you are a valid Commonwealther write on.

The US and Britain fought a war so that the US colonies would no longer be colonies. The US isn't and doesn't want to be and has never been a member of the Commonwealth. The UK and most other Commonwealth countries ended their colonial association without a war and much later, well, Canada wasn’t much later. Plenty American citizens would not be happy at the suggestion they belonged to the Commonwealth.

It threw me off when I read the beginning of this post. I live in Virginia in the US (one of the 13 original colonies) and it's considered the Commonwealth of Virginia. Apparently I didn't pay enough attention in World History class. I had to look up what made up the British Commonwealth. But I learned something!
