JANE GILGUN writes non-fiction, fiction, poetry, and academic journal articles, the latter based on her research on violence, violence prevention, and how persons overcome adversities. She has put together a couple of books that are available through mobipocket, kindle, and lulu.
She is not yet a fan of any of these publishing venues and is considering her next steps in letting people know the books are available.
Her books are On Being a Shit: Unkind Deeds and Cover-Ups in Everyday Life that tests a theory she developed through more than 20 years of interviewing violent men, most of them in prison.
Another book is I Want to Show You: A Memoir in Poems. A third is Child Sexual Abuse: Perpetrators and Survivors Tell Their Stories. They all are brand new, or months old.
She learned about unkind deeds and cover-ups while interviewing violent felons, most of them in prison. Through the interviews, she saw how violent men try to cover-up their terrible deeds. After a while, she saw that we all do it in much less harmful ways.
When she read Harry Frankfurt's On Bullshit, she had a name for the unkind deeds and cover-ups she had observed for so long. She said to herself, I can do what Harry did. I'll call my book On Being a Shit.
She agrees with one of her readers who said, “We all live with shits. Heck, I live with one constantly — being one myself.” Another reader said, "This is the first book ever on this topic."
The memoir in poems tell her life story. She herself was surprised to see how the themes of her life repeated themselves over time. They are arranged in chronological order and include sections on being a social worker and on doing research on violence.
With Alankaar Sharma, she is writing Child Sexual Abuse: Perpetrators and Child Survivors Tell Their Stories. This book is not finished and so is available free at lulu.com/content/1823038
She has written short literary pieces on smuggling drugs into prison, last thoughts on death row, and on the sexual abuse of a boy by a family friend. These stories are are available at Amazon.com/shorts and Kindle. Besides editred, she also writes for helium and triond.
Jane is pleased to share the results of her research on being a shit with an audience raring to go. There is a pressing need to take a serious look at this pervasive human condition. Remember, No one can be a shit without your consent. For those who want to be shits, the book is a step-by-step guide.
