I have been a freelance writer for about four years, since I worked for a creative writing and arts magazine, called "The Hole Magazine", which was based in Bath, England. I worked as the theatre reviewer and assistant to the editor. It was a non-profit magazine, aimed at giving a voice to local creativity of every kind.
Additionally I have been influenced by the genere of auto-biography and literary journalism and have enjoyed reading writers like, Jack Kerouc, Maya Angelou and Alain De Botton. During my childhood and teens, I sought refuge in the world of books, for peaceful inner entertainment. I fell in love with some of the books I read and decided that if I could create a text that was interesting and engaging to read, and had as much influence on me, as these books had on me, then my life would be worthwhile.
I began keeping a journal about 12 years ago, at the age of 19 and have maintained this habit since. Whilst traveling I have written about my experiences and love to write travel poetry.
Traveling since my childhood, which was spent in The US & UK, has influenced very much who I am. I have moved about 30 times in my short life and feel ready to settle now and type up all the 100's of note books I have filled.
I studied Media Studies at 6th form college and then went on to "The Central Speech of School & Drama" in London, to study English and World Theatre. My ambitions during my teens were to originally write screenplays and direct them, so I did lots of work experience in film and worked as the visual projectionist at Jazzcafe in London. The reality of working in film didn't appeal to me and so I devoted my energy to developed the skills of writing. I began writing poetry in my early teens and fell in love with the idea of creating a classic text.
I feel writing choose me: a well oiled cliche perhaps? I've written over 600 poems, interviews, theatre reviews. I worked for "The Hole Magazine" in Bath & have written a memior and a travel/family memoir, that will be published in 2007.
